Are you confused by all these acronyms and jargon? This list should help you sort things out:
-- From GermWorks - Web Jargon ExplainedAccessibility: Everyone can use the website whether they have a certain disability like visual, mobility, intellectual, auditory and seizures, or other browser factors (different types and old browsers), slow connection speeds etc.
Information Architecture: How the information (text, images, menus etc) is structured on a website and if it flows and reads nicely.
Web 2.0: Web 2.0 is a perceived or proposed second generation of the web. This is were the web has evolved and improved over time and now offers better and more up to date services like blogs, wiki’s, social networking sites etc
Usability: Is the way that a user experiences and uses the website. The user should be able to use and follow the website without instructions, getting lost or getting frustrated with it not working the way they think it should.
SEO: This is using the content of a website and the website itself and making it the best possible way of the website to be found on search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc.
CMS: This is a system that allows the owner of the website (you!) to be able to change, edit, add content without the need of a web developer or web skills.
Blog: Like an online dairy. This can be about and be used for anything at all, it can be used for news, reviews, products etc for a business, organization etc. This is great as it helps the user stay in touch with the website with new and up to date information.
CSS: Code that is used to style the page, best used as a separate file so it can control the whole website, easy for redesign and minor tinkering.
(X)HTML: Again name of code that is primarily used for web design.
